Tiger Force set for Joe Con 2014 (Pic + Info thanks to John Stottman and Glenn P. Winkler

tigerforceThanks to the club tipping us off, we knew a tease would be attached to the retail version of the last con’s single comic issue. John Stottman took the pic, Glenn P Winkler determined that it was Tiger force via the background. Noted author James Kavanaugh pointed out the club bought the art of the Baroness sometime ago, and it has been used in the past and likely doesn’t reflect contents of the set.

All three of those lovely folks, as well as myself and many others are in the G.I.Joe Discussion Group on FB, and that’s where much of the conversation is taking place. If you’re not there you should be, in addition of course to whatever group your already enjoying.

Thoughts:

I’m not a fan of bright yellow, and have no real nostalgia to that subset. The villains are likely going to determine my enjoyment of the set itself (which aren’t likely to be connected to the grid pattern on them bottom, since that’s a TF ad, and someone else pointed this out in the FB group) I’ll admit to being somewhat found of the bizarre Tigerforce Outback with white hair, beyond that, I’ll probably be trying to trade them out or sell them. I’m hoping with picking something they know is divisive for the Joes they will throw in some more commonly desired Cobras to please the rest of us.

That said, the set isn’t the best part of the convention, it’s hanging with the friends in the hobby and chatting Joe, so I’ll enjoy the con itself rather or not I will enjoy the set.

Another thing of note, is that both Hasbro and IDW are listed as being present, which is unusual. Could Hasbro be presenting new product???

2013 G.I.Joe con exclusive Freestyle review

Yo Joe! Freestyle is an excellent codename.  I have to start by saying that right off the bat, so many figures have been hindered by terrible names over the years, and in recent years we have seen very few new characters introduced, so i’m very pleased we get a new character, that’s female, an immigrant, minority, a new pilot, and she even has a name so cool and Joe esque it feels like a Joe should have already taken it.

freestylefilecardToday at the history of G.I.Joe panel Larry Hama said, “without moral and ethical cores you don’t have characters and without characters you don’t have a story.” (Larry Hama) I thought the first interesting thing I could do would be to stack this new Joe up against that qoute.  Freestyle comes from a diverse lower income background that by itself points to a resolute spirit that allowed to attain her spot with the Joes. There seems to be potential hinted at here, that she is serious and don’t unwind often and is more gaurded individual. Her ethical code might be one of hardwork, and no nonsense. Hama’s qoute plays out best when looking at a story arc, not a file card, and I think i’d like to see Freestyle get incorporated into future stories to further flesh her out. Her filecad isn’t spectacular like SE, or Hit n Run, but there is a spark of potential there.

On to the review. She makes use of the ROC covergirl/ 25th v 2 lady Jaye body parts except for 25th wild bills lower legs (which is unfortante in my opinion) and a Quarrel/Glenda Scarlet head. Her helmets original came with 30th ace(as pictured above) or 25th lift ticket. I’ve been told her vest is new, but it looks very similar to the canceled comic pack arctic scarlet to me. FSS Jinx review

There is a ton of Joe News out there right now, and a lot to be excited about. Even though I didn’t get the club’s FSS, i did have the chance to get the JINX figure that put as a single on their website. I’ve been slow to get the review up, but finally i’m able to present her. Similar to her VVV figure, this Jinx isn’t just a red ninja in pajamas, she is a battle ready Arashakage Ninja Assassin.
